ABOUT
A little about me...

With over 25 years’ experience in health and social care working with and supporting older adults, young people and adults with a learning disability; I have a passion in helping individuals flourish and realise their potential through the medium of yoga.

Throughout my life I have enjoyed keeping healthy through various forms of exercise and after experiencing a knee injury and environmental stress a number of years ago, I began practicing yoga. I quickly realised the benefits becoming more aware of the importance of breath, mindfulness, meditation and physical practice reducing stress, anxiety and tension, improving flexibility, increasing energy and improving my outlook on life. During this time I decided to embark on my teacher training course to enable me to share the benefits of yoga with others.

In October 2019 I participated in the flagship course, Special Yoga for Special Children and Young People giving me the tools and confidence to encourage children and young people to flourish and reach their full potential.

The course was developed and delivered by Jyoti Jo Manuel who has led the path in the UK for the delivery of therapeutic yoga for children and young people with special and additional needs for many years. Special Yoga's unique and mindful practice has supported thousands of children and young people who are differently abled around the world. The course is accredited by Yoga Alliance and ASDAN (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network).

In March 2020 I qualified as a 200 hour Hatha Raja Yoga Teacher training under the expert tuition of Joanne Lockhart at Yoga Jo’s Teacher Training School, Milingavie, Glasgow. I am a registered member of the professional body, Yoga Alliance Professionals, a worldwide organisation that supports professionalism and the highest standards in yoga.

More recently in my role delivering social care services I have experience first-hand the challenges individuals and families have been facing during COVID-19 pandemic, and will continue to do so in the future. So to assist in promoting individuals health and wellbeing, in May 2020 I completed an additional course, Yoga Therapy for Anxiety with the Minded Institute, London.

I was delighted in Dec 2020 to be shortlisted as a finalist in the Scottish Health Awards, which recognise outstanding care and innovative practice. I was nominated by my colleagues for running socially-distanced yoga classes to reduce stress and improve their physical and mental health. More can be read here in a Daily Record article.
